The OpenScape Business myPortal client has a great deal of features to benefit users whilst on a call, for finding historical call information and scheduling future calls. One of the aspects that is often overlooked is the Instant Messaging feature. Many Unified Communications offerings don’t support Instant Messaging or require an additional server.
With OpenScape Business, it’s all part of the UC Suite of applications:

Using the Instant Messaging feature
The Instant Messaging feature is incredibly easy to use. From the Internal Directory, simply find the user you wish to send a message to, right-click and select Send Instant Message. A message will appear on their screen. If the user is not signed into their myPortal then the message will pop up when they log in.
The messages are not saved anywhere, so it’s not recommended to send important information by Instant Message to a colleague. However it’s ideal to pass on details of a call you’ve taken for them. As the Internal Directory shows you your colleagues’ current Presence status, if they are busy on the phone and you pick up an important call for them, you could send them an Instant Message to alert them. They can decide if they want to end the call they’re on in order to take the call you have holding for them.
From the Favourites section, it’s possible to send a message to several colleagues at the same time. If you have a group of co-workers in the same Favourites group, simply right-click the group to send them all an Instant Message. Great for Team Leaders to send motivational messages to their staff. Saves time when trying to get information across to a larger group of people who may not all be in the same office. Or simply handy for asking whose turn it is to make the next cuppa!
Instant Messaging is a great feature that helps you stay in touch with colleagues – especially home workers or those in another office. Most impressive of all, the feature is free for those with myPortal!
